The event will be composed of plenary lectures, invited presentations, research presentations, and poster presentations. The following topics will be covered by the scientific sessions of the Conference:

Session 1: Plant structure and development

Organizer: Beata Zagórska-Marek.

From genes to phenotypes: body plan making in plants, based on gene action controlled on supracellular level in time and in space. Periodic patterns on the level of cell, tissue and organ structure. Morphogenetic processes and their virtual counterparts in computer modeling: activation, inhibition, iteration, reversion.

Session 2: Plant–microbial Interactions

Organizers: Katarzyna Turnau, Jacek Hennig.

Signaling, competition within the rhizosphere and phyllosphere, endophytes, molecular tools, application, phytoremediation.

Session3: Mitochondria and chloroplasts in cell metabolism

Organizers: Anna Rychter, Grzegorz Jackowski.

Respiratory chain structure and function, alternative oxidase, ROS, antioxidants and redox homeostasis, photosynthesis and respiration under stress, thylakoid membrane dynamics and organization, starch and sucrose metabolism and its regulation, metabolic interdependence of mitochondria and chloroplasts.

Session 4: Stress tolerance in plants

Organizer: Zbigniew Miszalski.

Abiotic stress, antioxidants, biotic stress, carbon metabolism, HR-hypersensitive response, PCD – programmed cell death, SAA – systemic acquired acclimation, SAR – systemic acquired resistance.

Session 5: Structural and functional organization of plant genome

Organizers: Andrzej K. Kononowicz, Artur Jarmołowski.

Chromatin structure and remodeling, coding and non-coding genome sequences, transcriptional and posttranscriptional gene expression regulation, transcriptional response elements and transcription factors, mechanisms of gene activation and silencing, genetic engineering of gene structure and expression, epigenetics.

Session 6: Mutants in developmental and metabolic studies

Organizers: Iwona Ciereszko, Iwona Szarejko.

Classical mutants and insertion lines as a tool to study: growth, development and metabolism of plants, the use of induced mutations for detecting gene function in model and crop plants.

Session 7: Secondary metabolites as pharmaceutics and nutraceutics

Organizer: Ewa Łojkowska.

In vitro culture as a method for effective production of secondary metabolies, methods for determination quantity and quality of secondary metabolities, screening secondary metabolities for biological activities, plants as a bioreactors.

Session 8: Plant membranes

Organizers: Kazimierz Strzałka, Kazimierz Trębacz.

Structure and function of plant membrane proteins, membrane lipids, domains and lipid rafts, protein and lipid interactions in plant membranes, regulation of membrane transporters, membranes and short- and long-distance signaling, methods of plant membrane examination, plasma membrane and membranes of cell organelles, model membranes.

SESSION 9: Integrating plant functions via signaling molecules – molecular mechanisms

Organizers: Halina Gabryś, Przemysław Wojtaszek.

Integrative aspects, molecular mechanisms, nitric oxide, plant growth and development, plant “classical” hormones, signaling peptides, light, calcium, kinases, photomorphogenesis, redox signaling.
