The symposium "How to wake up a Sleeping Beauty... about seed dormancy and germination"

Organized by Prof. Renata Bogatek-Leszczyńska and Dr. Agnieszka Gniazdowska, took place at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW in Warsaw. The conference was sponsored by Panalytica and Genore Chromatografia.

The conference, which was held in the University’s main auditorium, was attended by some 80 researches working in the field of seed biology and physiology. The participants were welcomed by Prof. Renata Bogatek-Leszczyńska of the Department of Plant Physiology. Next, Prof. Stanisław Lewak presented the history of study on seed dormancy and germination. A review of latest research in the field was presented by: Prof. Stanisława Pukacka – “Recalcitrant seeds of trees of temperate climate” and Dr. Tomasz Pawłowski – “Proteomics of dormancy release and germination of seeds”. Following, a lecture on ecophysiological aspects of seed dormancy was delivered by Prof. Anna Bochenek . After the coffee break, lectures were presented by Dr. Krystyna Oracz “Role of proteasome in regulation of seed germination of Brassicaceae” and Prof. Małgorzata Posmyk “Melatonin – biostymulator of seed germination”. The final presentation on “Signaling function of toxic volatiles in seed dormancy release” was delivered by Dr. Agnieszka Gniazdowska. After the symposium, the participants had a opportunity to visit the New SGGW Campus and admire the old part of Warsaw University of Life Sciences bathed in spring sunshine.
