The conference was organized to honor the Jubilee of the 80th anniversary of Professor Maria Olszewska.

The thematic symposium of PSEPB "Sweet news of the last decade - the transport, metabolism and regulating role of sugars" took place on 14 April 2007, in Białystok. Symposium was organized by Dr. Iwona Ciereszko, head of the Department of Plant Physiology in the Institute of Biology, University of Białystok. The session, which was held in the new auditorium of the University Library named by Jerzy Giedroyć, was attended by about 40 participants.
